Spin Doctors Talk New Album on Midwest Mixtape Podcast
Legendary ‘90s rock band Spin Doctors recently joined the Midwest Mixtape Podcast to discuss their long-awaited new studio album, Face Full of Cake, set for release on April 11 via Capitol Records. The album marks their first studio effort in 12 years and showcases a fresh yet familiar sound that longtime fans will appreciate.
The band’s new single, “Still A Gorilla,” was a major topic of discussion. The track, a heavier and more playful take on their signature style, was inspired by Robyn’s “Konichiwa Bitches.” Barron explained how that influence helped shape the song’s energy and humor. “Aaron had the music for years, but we couldn’t quite crack the lyrics. Once he sent me that Robyn track as a reference, everything just clicked,” Barron shared.
Comess added that the new album came together in an organic and low-pressure environment, recorded at Daley’s Asbury Park studio. “We weren’t thinking of it as a record at first. But when we captured that effortless energy, we knew we had something special,” he said.
To celebrate Face Full of Cake, Spin Doctors will play a highly anticipated album release show at Brooklyn Bowl in New York on April 12. The band also have an upcoming tour, which includes festival appearances and multiple nights at Utah’s Egyptian Theatre. “We love playing live. There’s nothing like the energy of the crowd, and we’re excited to bring these new songs to our fans,” Schenkman said.
Reflecting on their career, the band acknowledged their evolution while staying true to their roots. “This album has that Pocket Full of Kryptonite spirit, but with decades of experience behind it,” Barron noted. From Grammy-nominated hits like Two Princes to their enduring presence on the road, Spin Doctors continue to thrive in the rock scene.
With Face Full of Cake set to drop soon and a tour on the horizon, 2025 is shaping up to be a milestone year for the Spin Doctors. Their appearance on the Midwest Mixtape Podcast provided fans with an exciting look at what’s to come.
